About the examination

Know exactly which exam this is.

Similar abbreviations cause avoidable confusion. These answers separate the current national Junior Science pathway from older formats and unrelated school competitions.

What is the full form of NSEJS?+

NSEJS stands for National Standard Examination in Junior Science. It is the first screening stage in India’s pathway to the International Junior Science Olympiad (IJSO). The 2026 examination is conducted by the Indian Association of Physics Teachers (IAPT).

Is NSEJS an official Olympiad exam?+

Yes. NSEJS is the published first-stage national screening examination for India’s Junior Science Olympiad programme. NSEJS.com is an independent information website, not the registration authority. Verify important decisions on the official IAPT website.

Is NSEJS the same as NSO?+

No. NSEJS is the examination authority screening examination that leads to INJSO and potentially IJSO. School-level olympiads using names such as NSO are separate competitions with their own organisers, rules and awards.

Are IOQJS and NSEJS the same?+

Not in the current 2026 format. IOQJS was a combined qualifier used in the exceptional 2020–21 and 2021–22 cycles: Part I used NSEJS-style screening and Part II used INJSO-style evaluation in the same sitting. For 2026, the published first stage is NSEJS, followed by a separate INJSO stage. Always check the year on an old page or paper.

Date, registration & centre

Check registration status and your admit card.

Registration and the published correction window have ended. Use the official student login and your allotted centre for candidate-specific guidance.

When is NSEJS 2026?+

The examination is scheduled for Sunday, 22 November 2026, from 2:30 PM to 4:30 PM at the allotted registered NSE centre.

Is NSEJS 2026 registration still open?+

No. The published student-enrolment deadline was 16 September 2026. The correction window listed on the IAPT website ended on 1 October 2026. Check the latest official notices for any later change; do not assume that an enrolment button means a new application is still accepted.

What is the application fee?+

The published fee is Rs 300 and is non-refundable. Confirm every eligibility condition and all entered details before payment.

How do I choose an exam centre?+

Students enrolling through a school or another registered NSE centre should follow that centre’s instructions. Individual applicants should use the centre options shown in the current enrolment flow. Availability can change.

When will the admit card be available?+

As checked on 19 October 2026, the public IAPT notices do not specify an exact release date. The booklet describes hall tickets reaching centres about two weeks before the exam; this is guidance, not a confirmed download date. Check official student login, registered email or SMS, and your centre. See the admit-card and exam-day checklist.

Where is the step-by-step form guide?+

Use the NSEJS 2026 registration guide for past enrolment dates and current next steps for registered students.

The student must be studying in one of these classes on 30 November 2026.

✓

Born in 2012 or 2013

Date of birth must be 1 January 2012–31 December 2013, inclusive.

✓

Indian passport eligibility

The student must be eligible to hold an Indian passport.

Residence & schooling

Residing and studying in India, in an Indian school system, since 30 November 2024 or earlier.

✓

Class 10 board timing

Not completed, or scheduled to complete, the Class 10 board exam before 30 November 2026.

✓

One NSE track

The student must not also appear in NSEA, NSEB, NSEC or NSEP in the 2026 cycle.

Can a Class 7 student take NSEJS 2026?+

No. The current rule specifies Class 8, 9 or 10 on 30 November 2026. Meeting the age window alone is not enough.

Can a Class 10 student take NSEJS?+

Yes, if every other condition is met and the student will not complete the Class 10 board examination before 30 November 2026. Use the plain-language eligibility checker before paying.

Important: Eligibility is decided by the examination authority. NSEJS.com explains the published rules but does not approve registrations. Resolve any unusual situation with the published helpdesk before paying.
Syllabus & paper

Prepare for the actual 2026 format.

The published level is broadly equivalent to CBSE Science up to Class X. Previous papers show how those concepts are applied under time pressure.

48

Part A questions

One correct option. +3 for correct and −1 for an incorrect answer.

12

Part B questions

One or more correct options. +6 only for the complete correct set; no negative marking.

216

Total marks

60 MCQs in two hours, from 2:30 PM to 4:30 PM.

What is the NSEJS 2026 syllabus?+

The published guidance describes the level as broadly equivalent to CBSE Science up to and including Class X. The published 2026 page names Physics, Chemistry and Biology. Use the subject-wise syllabus guide as a planning map while treating the latest published notices as final.

Does NSEJS include Mathematics?+

The 2026 IAPT page does not list Mathematics as a separate NSEJS subject. Students still need the arithmetic, algebra, graphs, ratios and data handling required to solve science problems.

What is the marking scheme?+
  • Part A: 48 single-correct questions, +3 for correct and −1 for incorrect.
  • Part B: 12 multiple-correct questions, +6 only when every correct option and no incorrect option is marked; no negative marking.
  • Total: 60 questions, 216 marks and 2 hours.
Which languages are available?+

The 2026 booklet lists English, Hindi, Gujarati, Kannada, Bangla, Tamil and Telugu, selected during enrolment. A minimum-candidate condition applies to a language, so confirm availability in the live enrolment process.

Preparation

Use evidence, not a pile of books.

An original timed paper reveals more than a generic book list. Let the student’s errors decide what to revise, practise or ask help with next.

Can I crack NSEJS in one month?+

A month can produce meaningful improvement, but no honest guide can guarantee qualification. Start with one original paper under timed conditions, identify the weakest subject and largest source of lost marks, repair those gaps, and finish with full papers and error review rather than several new books.

Which books are best for NSEJS?+

Begin with NCERT Science for Classes 9 and 10, the school text for earlier prerequisites, and original NSEJS papers. Add one stronger reference only after the basics and paper analysis reveal a specific gap.

Where can I download previous papers?+

Use the NSEJS previous-year paper library for archived papers and clearly labelled Mathiit practice copies, worked solutions and chapter analysis. The question-bank hub explains source labels and topic tagging, while the mock-test guide shows how to run a current-pattern timed simulation.

Is coaching compulsory?+

No. A disciplined student can begin with the published syllabus, school or NCERT concepts and original papers. Structured teaching or testing is useful when it solves a measured problem such as concept gaps, poor subject balance, lack of feedback or weak timed-paper stamina.

Result & selection

Use the official shortlist, not a predicted cutoff.

National scores must be processed before 2026 thresholds exist. Use the final published scorecards and shortlist rather than coaching estimates.

Expected first-stage result

The 2026 booklet lists 25 December 2026 as the expected date. The date remains provisional until a later announcement.

Exam22 Nov 2026
Expected result25 Dec 2026

How MAS and MI work

The 2026 cutoff cannot be known before national scores are processed. The selection process combines national performance with the applicable representation provisions.

MAS50% of top-10 average
MI80% of top-10 average

For historical context only, the examination authority published MAS 70 and MI 112 for NSEJS 2025. Those figures do not predict 2026. The 2026 brochure states a target of 300 students for INJSO, subject to ties and applicable clauses.

What happens after qualifying NSEJS?+

The pathway is NSEJS → INJSO → Orientation-cum-Selection Camp (OCSC) → team training → International Junior Science Olympiad (IJSO). Read the complete stages guide for what each stage means.

Where should I check the result?+

Check the official IAPT notices and student login for results and scorecards. The booklet gives 25 December 2026 as an expected date, not a confirmed release announcement. See our result and selection guide for terminology.
