The National Standard Examination in Junior Science is the first screening stage in India’s Junior Science Olympiad pathway. It is organised by the Indian Association of Physics Teachers for eligible school students.

How to apply for NSEJS 2026
- Check eligibility first. Confirm class, date of birth, residence, schooling and subject-exam restrictions.
- Choose the enrolment route. Apply through a registered centre or the individual online route described in the 2026 instructions.
- Complete enrolment from 21 August to 14 September. Enter student details carefully, choose the centre and pay the non-refundable ₹300 fee.
- Keep the acknowledgement. Recheck the photo, name, date of birth and centre before downloading the admit card when released.

NSEJS exam pattern, cutoff and selection criteria
The two-hour paper has 60 questions for 216 marks. Read the marking system before attempting a mock because Part A1 and Part A2 reward different strategies.
From NSEJS to the International Junior Science Olympiad
IJSO is an international science competition for students below the age limit set for that year. The Indian programme uses several selection and training stages before the final team represents the country.

Who can appear for NSEJS 2026?
The published 2026 rules list students born from 1 January 2012 through 31 December 2013 who are studying in Classes 8, 9 or 10. Students must also satisfy the nationality and schooling conditions explained in our eligibility guide.
How are current-year details checked?
Dates and rules are reviewed against the current examination booklet, then explained here in plain language for students and parents.
Are the previous papers original?
The archive distinguishes unmodified original examination papers and verified keys from Mathiit-created solutions and teaching notes. Every file shows its source and paper year.
Does my child need coaching?
Not every student needs the same programme. Begin with an original past paper under timed conditions, identify the gap, and choose self-study, a test series or guided preparation accordingly.
