What happens after NSEJS?

NSEJS is not just one exam. It is Stage 1 of India’s Junior Science Olympiad pathway. A student can move from NSEJS to INJSO, a national selection camp, team training and finally the International Junior Science Olympiad.

The complete route

Five stages, explained without jargon.

The first three dates below are from the current 2026 student brochure. Later team-training and international dates are announced separately after selection.

STAGE 01

NSEJS

22 November 2026

A two-hour national screening examination in Junior Science for eligible students.

STAGE 02

INJSO

First week of February 2027

The Indian National Junior Science Olympiad. The current target is about 300 students selected through the announced rules.

STAGE 03

OCSC

April–June 2027

Top INJSO performers attend an intensive orientation-cum-selection camp with theory, experiments and tests.

STAGE 04

Team training

Dates announced later

The selected national team receives focused theoretical and experimental pre-departure training.

Parent actionKeep passport and consent documents ready only after official team-selection instructions.
STAGE 05

IJSO

Host and dates announced later

The final team represents India at the International Junior Science Olympiad.

After the result

There is a useful next step for every student.

Parents should respond to the evidence in the result—not compare the child with a topper or buy a course immediately.

If selected for INJSO

Celebrate briefly, then move to structured national-stage preparation.

  • Complete the mandatory registration when announced
  • Study the broad Class X science syllabus more deeply
  • Practise quantitative reasoning, written solutions and unfamiliar applications

The report still shows the student’s present national-level readiness.

  • Separate concept errors from speed and calculation errors
  • Identify the strongest science subject
  • Build a six-month foundation plan instead of repeating random mocks

If a certificate is earned

Download and preserve it with the report card and enrolment details.

  • Record the exact level of recognition
  • Do not describe a centre certificate as national selection
  • Use accurate wording in school records and student profiles

What can the student actually receive?

Recognition increases with performance, but even the first report card gives a useful benchmark. Awards below are subject to the current eligibility and selection rules.

Parent note: the current brochure states that there is no separate examination or camp fee after the ₹300 NSE enrolment fee.

A score record is generated for every enrolled candidate.

CENTRE LEVEL

Top 10% certificate

Certificates are given to the top 10% of students at each centre.

STATE LEVEL

Top 1% merit certificate

Merit certificates recognise the top 1% in each state for the subject.

NATIONAL LEVEL

Special merit and book prize

The national top 1% in Junior Science receive special merit recognition and a book prize.

OCSC

Gold medal recognition

Students selected for and attending the Junior Science OCSC receive gold-medal recognition under the current brochure.

FINAL TEAM

Represent India at IJSO

The highest outcome is selection to the national team for the international competition.

A realistic parent view

The value is bigger than a certificate—but it is not a guarantee.

NSEJS tests conceptual understanding, logical reasoning and the ability to solve unfamiliar science problems. Those skills support long-term learning, but no honest website should promise an admission, scholarship or career result from one examination.

What should I do after the exam?

Use this checklist instead of waiting without a plan or pressuring the student about the result.

  1. Preserve the exam record. Keep the enrolment number, centre details and admit card until every result and certificate is downloaded.
  2. Discuss the paper calmly. Ask which problems felt interesting, confusing or time-consuming before discussing marks.
  3. Download the result and report card. The current schedule expects the first-stage result on 25 December 2026.
  4. If shortlisted, register for INJSO. The current instructions say shortlisted students must complete the announced INO registration in January 2027.
  5. If not shortlisted, build from the evidence. Review errors by Physics, Chemistry and Biology, then prepare only the weakest high-value topics.
Parent questions

Short, honest answers.

What happens immediately after qualifying NSEJS?+

The student is shortlisted for INJSO. The family must watch the result notice, complete the required national-stage registration when announced and download the admit card. The current probable INJSO window is the first week of February 2027.

Is NSEJS useful if my child does not qualify?+

Yes. Every candidate receives a report card, and the paper gives a demanding benchmark of conceptual science, quantitative reasoning, application and exam stamina. Use it to identify strengths and preparation gaps.

Does NSEJS give direct admission or a scholarship?+

No. It is an Olympiad selection examination. Recognition can strengthen a student’s academic profile, but it does not by itself guarantee an admission, scholarship or career outcome.

Does the child need specialised coaching for every stage?+

Not necessarily. The first stages reward a strong school-science foundation and thoughtful problem-solving. Training becomes more specialised at the selection-camp and international-team stages.
