NSEJS selection is more than one predicted cutoff.
Parents often ask for a single qualifying mark. The official scheme uses the top-ten average, Minimum Admissible Score, Merit Index and nationwide representation rules, so the meaningful thresholds are known only after results are processed.
MAS, MI and representation.
These definitions come from the official IAPT brochure. Later notices and official result lists control the final outcome.
MAS
The Minimum Admissible Score is 50% of the average of the top ten scores, rounded down. A student below MAS cannot be selected through the representation mechanism.
MI
The Merit Index is 80% of the same top-ten average, rounded down. The brochure says students at or above MI qualify automatically for the next-stage examination in that subject.
Representation
For eligible scores below MI, the official scheme applies State/UT representation and minimum-total-number clauses. This is why one unofficial all-India cutoff can mislead families.
What parents should do.
Use official result documents, not forwarded screenshots or coaching predictions.
Download the report card
The brochure states that report cards are generated for all enrolled candidates and can be downloaded from the IAPT website.
Read the published thresholds
Note the official MAS, MI and any category or representation information released with the result.
Check the official shortlist
A score comparison is not a substitute for the published selection list. Use the official Junior Science/IAPT portal.
Follow next-stage instructions exactly
Selected students should use only the official deadline, registration and admit-card instructions for INJSO and later stages.
Score, selection and certificate are different outcomes.
Do not promise every candidate the same certificate or equate a centre certificate with INJSO selection.

Rules can change through later notices. The official brochure and official portals always override explanatory guidance on this independent website.
